High Frequency Electronic Circuits

Whereas switch-start and electronic starter fluorescent circuits work on normal mains frequency of 50 Hz, high frequency control gear boosts the frequency of 50 Hz. This increases the rate of lamp flicker from 10 to 64000 times per second. Consequently the stroboscopic effect from fluorescent lamps is eliminated. Figures 1 and 2 shows the arrangement for high frequency electronic circuits.

High frequency circuit data
Advantages of high frequency circuits over conventional 50 Hz fluorescent circuits include:
. increases lamp efficacy
. no stroboscopic effect (creates flicker-free working environment)
. reduced power consumption in ballasts
. lower operating temperature within luminaire
. almost unity power factor
. reduced running costs.extended lamp life.instant, first time starting
. ballast switches off if the lamp fails (stop nuisance flashing on and off of lamp)
. dimming control available
. no problems of noisy chockes, as may be the case in 50 Hz circuits.
