The circuit comprises an inductor (ballast) and a capacitor in series with the lamp filaments, making up an R, L and C circuit. An electronic starter is connected in parallel with the lamp. Unlike the switch-start circuit, the electronic starter has no moving parts.
When switching on, the solid-start starter, in conjunction with the other components, provide the cathode current and high voltage to initiate the discharge in the fluorescent lamp (Figure 1).
Electronic Starter Circuit Data
Electronic starters overcome many of the disadvantages of switch-start circuits, for example:
. flicker-free starting is provided.extends lamp life
. cuts out supply to failed lamps.starter built into luminaire and stops pilferage
. cannot be replaced with an incorrect starter
